Biesbosch , the museum on an island
Water security was the key reason to the development of the Biesbosch Museum Island.
As part of a national water safety program , the polder Noordwaard 4,450 hectares has become an area of water retention. On either side of the Biesbosch Museum mouths were created , which created a new island .
The existing museum building has undergone a dramatic transformation , designed by Studio Marco Vermeulen , has been expanded with a new wing opens towards the outside building. Here are the restaurant and a space for temporary exhibitions of contemporary art.
water play spaces and park tidal freshwater was also designed .
The old and new sections of the museum are surrounded by earthworks and covered with a roof of grass and herbs.
The new museum avoids wasting resources and contribute to the region , this applies to energy supply and water treatment , as well as dishes from the restaurant menu
